Sweatbox Studio is proud to announce the second year of our recording arts summer day camp!

Whether you're a budding singer (or guitarist, or bassist, or songwriter...) interested in recording your first CD in your room or an aspiring professional recording engineer or producer, we can give you the tools to get started.  Upon completion of the week-long session, you'll have a solid working knowledge of the technical operation of a recording studio. Each participant will gain hands-on experience in the entire recording process including: microphone placement, recording console operation, outboard gear use (including compressors, reverb, effects), tape machine use, and mixing. This knowledge will enable you to set up and operate a mini-studio of your own at home using widely available digital and analog gear.

The culmination of the session will be two days of actual recording. Each camper will have a chance to use what they've learned by tracking and mixing one song performed by a real band in the studio. You'll bring home your own mix of that recording session on CD.

About the studio

For seventeen years Sweatbox Studio has been one of the favorite destinations in town for local, national, and international artists. The Austin-American Statesman's Annual XL Studio Guide ranks Sweatbox in the top ten out of over two hundred Austin studios and writes:
"Since opening its doors in March 1993, Sweatbox, openly referred to as 'legendary' in punk circles, has become one of the most famous garage rock studios in the world. Underground bands from as far away as Europe and Asia, not to mention several generations of Austin rockers, come here for a gnarly, live'r-than-God sound."
In its new eastside location, Sweatbox has evolved from Austin's original garage and punk rock haven to a fully realized recording space producing everything from string quartets to bluegrass to metal!

About the owner
Mike Vasquez brings to this project his wealth of experience in the studio. He graduated from Colby College with a BA in English and history and has conducted over a thousand recording sessions. Here are some highlights.
